You are such a good soul Luca! I am so happy that you are working on your residency. We are a fortunate nation to gain from your talents and insight! Much love to you.
Thanks for this post, Jill. I’m trying to find out ways to combine diving with citizen science here in Florida. One way I thought of is helping with the coral nurseries down I the Florida Keys. Perhaps there are other opportunities closer to me in Central Florida near the springs. If you have any ideas or contacts, I’m all ears!
Hi Robbie! You can reach out to the Florida Springs Institute in High Springs. They often need volunteers and citizen scientists. KUR (Karst Underwater Research) also needs hands for help and support diving for some of their big dives and research projects. Finally, Merrillee Jipson and her husband Doug run RUM138 - a venue, shop, kayak rental spot near High Springs. Merrillee does a ton of environmental advocacy for springs and needs good people. Best wishes! - Jill
Jill, I agree with you to my core! The two most important things we need to do is do all WE can, not waiting for someone else, and be kind! Sometimes I hear people saying “Somebody do something!” My answer is always, we are, what are you doing? If each one of us daily, do just one thing for the planet, we would have some results!
My heart breaks for animals, I always find my peace amongst them and I know they are hurting and by no fault of their own and every time we humans screw up, wildlife is always the loser, always the last ones to be cared for! I was reading last night how the gray whales had the lowest number so far going back to Alaska in the last 40 years! I see them when they go by and always bring me so much joy, now I am heartbroken because they hardly have any calfs and they all look malnourished with their ribs sticking out! Last summer in Alaska they didn’t get the nutrients because of warming waters and they came to Baja already malnourished. I can’t do anything but make the choices that I know will benefit the planet, even though I know it’s not enough but I can’t give up the hope that if just enough people care, we can save our beautiful planet. Everytime I have an interaction with a wild animal, whether on land or underwater, I feel a renewed sense of responsibility.
Robert, it must feel so good to feel proud of the country you are a citizen of! I am proud of Canada! I am working on my residence as we speak!
