Yes, I think that once someone has experienced DCI, they can offer a lot to a friend in the same situation. When someone is in severe pain, they need an extra brain for support... and always a caring heart!
Wow Jill, that is quite the scary ordeal! Thank God for a well organized dive company, a hyperbaric physician fellow diver and the best buddy possible! The mechanic/orthopedic surgeon helped too! Wow, I am glad he is ok! I am always worried about getting bent in remote places and take so many precautions but I know there are undeserved hits! I hope if I ever get bent I will be lucky enough to have the same support your buddy did! While medical care is crucial, the emotional support it’s even more important, I would be so scared and having someone that I can completely trust my wellbeing to, is huge! I am sorry you didn’t have it when you needed it!
I never heard about the Cure! I always learn something new from both of you! Thank you Robert, I will listen to new music on my way home from work!
Your friend could not have had a better team helping him. I am sure it gave him a lot of reassurance. Glad he had such a good outcome. If you hadn't figured out the chamber issue would you have considered in water recompression?
You may also have considered a Modified Kindwalll, albeit you would require a capability to drive the chamber 3msw deeper to 18 msw. It may have offered options if relief wasn't obtained. Very happy to hear you were successful. Chuuk can be difficult if things don't go as planned. Thanks for sharing, These experiences are important.
I have personally used In Water treatment but it really requires early prep and permission from the vessel. A full
Face mask is needed and close supervision. Although he would have been an ideal candidate, we still deemed the risks lower to go with traditional treatment. That said, we were entertaining that as a consideration.
The Modified Kindwall is a chamber treatment, very similar to Table 9. It offers options, including extending time to 120-180 minutes. No matter though, it sounds like all went well. Cheers.

Thanks! We were all relieved that he had a great result!
